Mathematics

The Archbishop Spalding High School Summer Mathematics Program offers current and incoming Spalding students the opportunity over the summer to practice and refresh math skills which they have learned in their prior math classes.
The program was created to help students improve in their math skills throughout the summer. With the aid of Spalding teachers, these students will work through practice workbooks and partake in math activities so as to sharpen their math skills and ready themselves for the math they will see in the coming school year. The program will tailor itself to each student’s level of math knowledge and each student’s math ability.

The Math Program will run from August 8 - August 11 and will meet from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm each day. The cost of the program is $250 and that includes the purchase of the workbook.

Academic Writing

The Academic Writing Seminar focuses on the development of the brief analytical essay, a key groundwork for writing in all courses. Class time is divided daily into periods of topic discussion, writing workshop and peer review. The seminar progresses from basic writing mechanics to a more nuanced discussion of how to support an argument with appropriate detail. Students will review the foundations of strong academic writing, with an emphasis on establishing an authoritative tone. The seminar then applies these concepts towards the broader tasks of essay writing: the thesis, essay structure and organization, and developing evidence.

Attention will also be given to adjusting the writing process for different coursework and purposes throughout their high school and college careers. The cost of the program is $250.
