The Archbishop Spalding community has been praying for the victims and relief workers in Haiti.
The School’s Student Government Association (SGA) held a fundraiser on Thursday, January 21st to raise money for the Haitian earthquake relief efforts. Students, parents, faculty and staff were able to raise the highest amount of money in the school’s history, bringing the total to $14,185.25. The money will be donated to the American Red Cross.
The idea was proposed on Tuesday, January 19th, and promoted for two days throughout the school. On Thursday, students were asked to bring in a minimum of five dollars; many went above and beyond the minimum contribution.
Archbishop Spalding’s gift to the American Red Cross will support emergency relief and recovery efforts to help those people affected by the earthquake in Haiti. For more information or to donate to the American Red Cross please visit www.redcross.org.
We continue to keep in touch with our sister schools in Haiti. Dr. Mortel, our primary contact, reported that the schools were not destroyed, as they are outside of Port-Au-Prince area. However, all the schools in the entire country remain closed, and the continued aftershocks have affected people, emotionally, psycholocially, and physically. Many are homeless, and many choose to sleep out on the streets because of fear that these aftershocks will cause their homes to crumble.
