Dear Members of the Archbishop Spalding Community,
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I hope this finds everyone well and contending with these troubling times as best you can. Foremost on the minds of Board Members has been Spalding: its students, faculty and staff, its parents, alumni and supporters--and its future. Given these uncertain times, we're writing to tell you that President Kathleen Mahar has agreed to postpone her retirement one year, to the end of the 2021-22 school year.
We don't underestimate the personal changes this means for Mrs. Mahar and her decision only underscores her devotion to Spalding. The Board is grateful to her for staying on to help guide us through the coming months and the challenges we will face. Having continuity of leadership over the next two years will be essential, and we want to assure you that we are confident that through prayer and by working together, we will emerge from this stronger than ever.
The search for Mrs. Mahar’s successor will continue, but at a slower pace. Limitations on the search now are obvious given the restrictions on the public's movements. Another practical concern is that the search committee, of course, hopes to draw the best possible pool of candidates and believes many of the top potential applicants are devoting themselves to their current schools and institutions--as they should be.
We will continue to update you in the coming months. In the meantime, please join us in offering thanks to Mrs. Mahar and in keeping the entire Spalding community in your prayers.
We remain One in Christ,
