Bequest Language
Creating a legacy at Archbishop Spalding High School through a bequest— a gift in your will —is a straightforward process that won't impact your current financial situation. Your bequest can be a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate. You have the option to designate it as unrestricted, allowing the school to allocate it to areas of greatest need as determined by the Board of Trustees, or to support a specific purpose. If eligible, your bequest can also establish a named endowment in accordance with our guidelines.

Residual Bequest Language:
For a residual bequest, Spalding will receive the remainder of your estate after covering expenses and specific bequests. You can use the following language:
"I give and devise to Archbishop Spalding High School, located at 8080 New Cut Rd, Severn, Maryland 21144, a 501(c)3 educational organization, all (or state a percentage) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific fund or program; however, if said program or fund are no longer viable, applicable, or in existence, then the bequest will support a school priority as determined by the Board of Trustees who will be mindful of the donor's original intent)."
Specific Bequest Language:
If you prefer a specific bequest, you can name a particular amount from your estate to benefit Spalding:
"I give and devise to Archbishop Spalding High School, located at 8080 New Cut Rd, Severn, Maryland 21144, a 501(c)3 educational organization, the sum of $___________ to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific fund or program; however, if said program or fund are no longer viable, applicable, or in existence, then the bequest will support a school priority as determined by the Board of Trustees who will be mindful of the donor's original intent)."
Contingent Bequest Language:
In the event that your specific bequests cannot be fulfilled, Spalding can be named as a contingent beneficiary in your will or personal trust:
"If (insert name) is not living or in existence at the time of my demise, I give and devise to Archbishop Spalding High School, located at 8080 New Cut Rd, Severn, Maryland 21144, a 501(c)3 educational organization, the sum of $ _______ (or all or a percentage of the residue of my estate) to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific fund or program; however, if said program or fund are no longer viable, applicable, or in existence, then the bequest will support a school priority as determined by the Board of Trustees who will be mindful of the donor's original intent)."
