Dan McGrain Named University of Chicago's Outstanding Educator

Jen Weissmueller
President Kathy Mahar is proud to announce that Mr. Dan McGrain, Social Studies Department Chair, has received the University of Chicago’s Outstanding Educator Award.   The University honors outstanding educators who shape young minds in meaningful ways—thoughtfully approaching instruction, sharing an infectious love for learning, and caring for students both inside and outside of the classroom. Each year, newly admitted University of Chicago students have the opportunity to reflect on their time in school and nominate an educator who played a significant role in their education, made a positive impact in their lives, and whose influence has brought them to where they are today.

Mr. McGrain began his tenure at Spalding in the Social Studies Department in 2009 and was named Chair in 2018.  In 2016, Dan was named the Archbishop Spalding Educator of the Year.  Outside of his impressive work in the classroom Dan also moderates the Academic Bowl Team and coordinates an annual trip to the Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders Meeting which provides an extraordinary opportunity for Spalding students.  Alumnus Brandon Shin ’20, nominated Mr. McGrain for this award, remarking “I’m excited to hear that Mr. McGrain received the Outstanding Educator Award. It truly meant a lot to have a teacher at Spalding who was—and still is—truly invested in my success.”

Join us in congratulating Mr. McGrain on this award which further highlights his exceptional teaching abilities.
