The 2019 Cappie Award Winner for Best Musical for The Drowsy Chaperone
The 2019 Cappie Award Winner for Best Set for The Drowsy Chaperone
Under the direction of Lauren Schene ‘10, Spalding Theatre’s community of dedicated faculty, student performers, student tech crew members, and faculty and student musicians come together each school year to produce one fall play and one spring musical.
Any student may audition for the fall play and spring musical and, if selected to be in the cast, rehearse and work hard in the weeks and months leading up to the performance. Students may also be selected to be part of the orchestra for the spring musical, however, those students are chosen at the discretion of the band director, Mr. Sturgis.
Students who are interested in the technical side of theatre can apply for a position on tech crew. We have many departments available which include:
-
Lights > Members of the light crew work with our lighting system to design the lights for the show, operate the light board, and operate spotlights. The lighting crew works under the direction of Ms. Schene and Mr. Hutcheson.
-
Stage > The stage crew works on moving the set pieces on the stage during each show. Before each show, they will spike (mark with tape) where each set piece goes to ensure smooth transitions of the set pieces during each show. The stage crew may also be asked to operate the curtain, fox machines or assist with any special effects during the show. The stage crew works under the direction of Ms. Schene
-
Set Construction > The Set Construction team works to design and build the set pieces for each show. All students who wish to help with set construction must have proper safety equipment. The set construction team works under the direction of Ms. Schene, Mrs. Datz, and any parent volunteers.
-
Student Producer > The Student Producer is the director’s right hand and helps with all aspects of the production, including assisting the director during rehearsals, creating promotional materials for each show and communicating all necessary information to the cast and crew.
-
House > The house crew works to assist with ticket collection, ushering, and ensuring the audience has a wonderful experience at Spalding Theatre. The house crew works under the direction of Ms. Schene and the Parent Producer.
Students who are interested in auditioning for Spalding Theatre or participating in Tech Crew should email Ms. Schene (schenel@spaldinghs.org) to be added to the Spalding Theatre PowerSchool page where they will be able to see all information pertaining to auditions and Tech Crew applications.
