The Mathematics Department strives to help our students deepen their understanding and appreciation of how mathematics is relevant in the real world. We meet students where they are in their study of mathematics while preparing them to continue their study of mathematics at the college level. We offer a variety of challenging courses that build upon each other, many of which are offered across multiple ability levels. Our courses aim to strengthen the ability to think abstractly and logically and to communicate mathematical understanding and reasoning. We challenge and motivate our students with the intent to strengthen their abilities to problem solve, think critically and persevere.
All incoming ninth graders who took a full year of Algebra I in middle school looking to receive a waiver for Algebra I must pass the Spalding proficiency test, which is administered each spring. Students granted a waiver will receive one credit for Algebra I and it will not be included in the GPA or on Spalding transcript.
All incoming ninth graders will be required to take four credits of mathematics at Archbishop Spalding. Credits awarded for courses taken in junior high or middle school will not be counted in these four. One credit of Math must be taken each year.
PLEASE NOTE: A TI-83 Plus or TI-84 Plus graphing calculator is required for all mathematics courses at Archbishop Spalding High School.
