Opening Liturgy

Caitlin Boyle
On Wednesday, September 16th, we celebrated our Opening Liturgy for the 2020-2021 Academic Year. Year after year, through our traditional gathering, we welcome all classes, faculty, and staff, into our Performing Arts Center, or mini-Cathedral as Fr. Ryan likes to call it, giving thanks for the many blessings of our Spalding Community.

Centered around this year’s theme of “Through this Together”, we felt it important to continue this tradition, beginning our year customarily, with prayer and gratitude, led by our Chaplain Fr. Thomas Ryan. While we were parted in circumstance, we gathered as one, in the presence of God, opening our eyes and hearts to the challenges and opportunities of this school year. Live Streaming from our Chapel, aided by Mr. Strunk, it was certain as ever that Spalding is a faithful and vibrant community. Our Call to Worship was led by Senior, Jackson Saucier. Senior Avia Gerstel joined in as a lector, and Senior Cat McCabe led us in song, accompanied by Mrs. Hough and Mr. Heming.

Assembling in our homes, the Mass was simple and heartfelt - feeding us spiritually, offering us unity, and emphasizing to us our calling to care for one another, learn alongside one another, and praise God as one. Our Mass, even virtually, ever grounds us and provides the base upon which our community stands. With God’s grace, we know there is nothing we cannot bear or become.
We hope our students and staff will continue to join us in fellowship as we alternate weekly in sharing prayer services and masses virtually beginning at 10 AM every Wednesday.
