Semifinalists represent less than one percent of the nation’s high school seniors. Archbishop Spalding High school senior, Catcher Salazer is on the prestigious list of achievers in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship competition.
Semifinalists were selected based on high performance on the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Catcher received a perfect score. Semifinalists will advance to finalist status based on criteria such as academic record, recommendation by a school principal, SAT/ACT performance, and participation and leadership in school and community activities. Finalists, who compete for about 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth around $30 million will be announced in the spring of 2022.
We are very proud of Catcher and his amazing accomplishments thus far. We can’t wait to see what is instore for him in the future. He currently has an internship at Johns Hopkins and recently published his first research pre-print “Robust designation of meiotic crossover sites by CDK-2 through phosphorylation of the MutSγ complex.”
