Computer Science

The goal of the Computer Science Department is to prepare students for success in a society where technological innovations have transformed the world. ALL students are required to complete Introduction to Computer Science by the end of their sophomore year. It is recommended that students who lack keyboarding skills (typing less than 30 wpm) use online resources to bring their keyboarding abilities up to that level. All other Computer science Courses are electives.

Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Pathway to Computer Science
Pathway To Computer Science, is a program integrated into the core curriculum.  At a time when computer science affects how we work and live, PLTW Computer Science empowers students in grades 9-12 to become creators, instead of merely consumers, of the technology around them.
The program’s interdisciplinary courses engage students in compelling, real-world challenges. As students work together to design solutions, they learn computational thinking – not just how to code – and become improved thinkers and communicators. From the course. Students are familiarized with in-demand knowledge and skills they will use in high school and for the rest of their lives, in any career path they choose.
PLTW Computer Science courses are part of the AP + PLTW computer science pathway.  In order to complete the PLTW-Computer Science program, a student must take PLTW-Computer Science Principles, AP Computer Science A and the full year PLTW-Cybersecurity Course which will be available in the 2018-19 school year.
