• Spring Cheer Clinics

  Spring Training Clinics are open to ALL students registered for the 2024-2025 school year.  NO experience is necessary.  While we strongly encourage athletes to attend as many spring training clinics as they can, these are NOT mandatory and attendance, or lack thereof, does NOT influence team placement.
  
  Veteran Clinics will be held on April 9th & 11th from 3:15-5:00pm.  These dates are for returning ASHS Cheerleaders Only.
  
  Open Cheer Clinics will be held on the following dates from 4:00-5:30 in the Aux Gym. 
  April 16th & 18th
  May 7th & 9th
  
  

  MANDATORY FOR PARTICIPATION –  Athletic Physical, completed in the past year, must be uploaded to Magnus prior to the first day of participation (spring clinic or tryouts).  

  
  Appropriate workout attire should be worn to all clinics and practices throughout the season.  Shorts or spandex, T-shirt/tank, socks, sports bra and athletic/cheer shoes.  Hair needs to be pulled back from the face and off the shoulders.  No jewelry!!  For safety purposes, fingernails should be trimmed short.

• 2024-2025 Tryout Information

  The Archbishop Spalding Cheerleading Program has both a JV and Varsity level team and while helpful, NO prior cheer experience is necessary to participate in tryouts.  Team placement is skill based and the number of athletes on each team will range between 9-24 athletes per team.  
  
  Tryouts for the 2024-2025 season will take place May 13th-May 15th. **Athletic Physical MUST be uploaded to Magnus prior to May 1st.
  
  Monday, May 13th from 4:00-6:30pm in the Auxiliary Gym.  (Instructional Day for Small Group Eval Material)
  Tuesday, May 14th from 4:00-6:30pm in the Auxiliary Gym.  (Review Small Group Eval Material.  Stunt, Tumbling, and Fitness Evals)
  Wednesday, May 15th - Small Group Evals begin at 3:00pm (eval times and groups will be given out on 5/13)

  Additional Information
  Motions, Jumps, Voice, and Showmanship are the core skills that coaches look at for team placement.  Stunts and Tumbling are secondary skills in our evaluation process.  
  
  Small Group Eval Material will consist of the following:
  

  • Cheer
  • Chant
  • Filler Dance
  • Short 2:30 Comp Style Dance
  • Jump Sequence

  Stunt Evals* will consist of the following:
  

  • Prep with Pop Cradle (straight ride or twist)
  • Extension with Bump Down Dismount
  • Extended Liberty with Bump Down Dismount

  *Athletes will need to be cleared through stunt progressions prior to performing any of the above stunt skills.
  
  Tumbling is NOT mandatory.  Coaches will only evaluate tumbling skills that an athlete can perform confidently and consistently without a spot.  
  
  Team placement emails will be sent on Thursday, May 16th before 6:00pm.  
  
  Attendance at the May tryout is required for anyone interested in being a part of the competitive cheerleading team for the 2024-2025 school year.  Winter tryouts for our basketball sidelines only team will be held in October.  
  
  

  Athletes that are interested in taking tumbling classes can do so independently.  We recommend the following gyms:
