    Tryout Info
All tryout material will be taught on Day 1.  Tryout material will include jump combo, one chant, dance, and fight song.  Running tumbling, standing tumbling, and stunting will also be evaluated.  Tumbling should only be performed if skill can be done safely and without a spot.

Stunt skills that will be evaluated at tryouts include:
    • Prep with straight ride pop cradle
    • Extension with bump down dismount
    • Extended liberty with bump down dismount
If able, flyers will be asked to demonstrate single twist dismount from prep and/or advanced single leg body positions (heel stretch, arabesque, scale, scorpion, bow).

Stunting at tryouts also follows a perfection before progression guideline and not everyone may advance through all skills listed above.  We will have a full cheer floor for stunt evals and spotters.

Fitness test will include 1 mile run/jog (aiming for under 11 minutes), handstand hold (aiming for 30 seconds), 2 minute sit up (aiming for 40)

    Tryout Attire

Appropriate attire should be worn each day of tryouts (shorts or spandex, T-shirt/tank, socks, sports bra and athletic/cheer shoes).

For safety purposes, fingernails should be trimmed short.  Hair needs to be pulled back away from the face and off the shoulders.  NO jewelry is permitted!!

Water bottles are recommended. If you require a inhaler or brace, please make sure you bring that with you as well.

Friday, May 30th - Small group material evals begin at 3:30pm
Tryout group times will be assigned on Wednesday, 5/29.  Each group will consist of 2-4 athletes and given a 15 minute eval time block.  Athletes should plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to their assigned tryout time to stretch and review material with group.

    Tryout Tips

98% of your tryout score will come from the execution of the tryout material so it is always best to focus on your motions, voice, facials, and jumps.  Practice your material so you can come into evals able to perform with confidence!

    Team Selection

Team sizes will be determined by the coaching staff on the final day of tryouts. The number of athletes taken on each team will depend on the number of athletes that attend tryouts and the skill level demonstrated by each athlete.

Athletes will be chosen proportionately based on stunt positions (1 flyer and 1 back to every 2 bases).

Team selection will be made from a competition mindset and athletes will be ranked by their tryout scores.

The athlete’s grade, for the Freshman and Senior class members, may be factored into the team placement process.

Head coach will have final say over team placement and all decisions are final.

If you have any questions or are in need of an alternative tryout date, please email Coach Miller at cheer@spaldinghs.org.  Alternative tryout dates should be requested no later than May 21st.
