  • Mission Statement for College Counseling

The College Counseling Department at Archbishop Spalding High School is committed to guiding students as they discover their strengths, define their goals, and confidently express their aspirations for life beyond high school. Grounded in our Catholic mission and rigorous academic environment, we empower students with the knowledge, skills, and discernment needed to thrive in college and in their future careers. We encourage students to think critically, seek new challenges, and embrace opportunities for growth, academically, personally, and spiritually, so they may understand who they are and who they are called to become. Through open communication with students and their families and the College Counseling Department, we ensure each student takes ownership of their process while receiving compassionate and informed support every step of the way. Our ultimate goal is to help students transition into their next step, whether that be higher education, military service or the workforce, as confident, responsible, and faith-driven leaders prepared to make a positive impact on the world.
The College Counseling Office consists of three full-time college counselors and one full-time Coordinator dedicated to assisting students and parents with the college selection and admissions process.  Each counselor has a caseload of juniors and seniors whom they advise for college selection and admission.

Each student is issued a MaiaLearning account during their sophomore year, in order to access their personal college page.  MaiaLearning is our electronic college admissions program which organizes potential colleges and tracks student application materials.  Students also use MaiaLearning to sign up for college information sessions during the school day.  Typically, over 150 college representatives visit Archbishop Spalding High School each fall.

The College Counseling Office offers workshops over the summer and during the school year covering a range of topics, including writing the college essay and helping with application completion.  Students are encouraged to attend the College Fair held every fall, as it is a great opportunity to meet and connect with admissions representatives from a large number of schools.  The College Counseling Office also hosts separate College Nights for sophomore, junior and senior students and parents/guardians.  Families are asked to attend, as a wealth of information about the process of searching, selecting and applying to college is covered.
