At Freshman Welcome, you will receive:
  • Spalding credentials to access the information required for Proficiency Testing and Elective selection.

  • When is the first day of school for the 2026-2027 school year?

    Please refer to the School Calendar for important start dates including Freshmen Orientation, Freshmen Retreat, as well as the first day of school.

     
  • Do you have any carpool options at Spalding?

  • When does the school day start and end?

    Students are expected to be in their first-period classes by 7:50 AM. The school day concludes at 2:35 PM. 
  • How many class periods are in a day?

    There are 8 class periods in a day with homeroom. 
    Period 1: 7:50-8:34
    Period 2: 8:39-9:22
    Homeroom: 9:27-9:44
    Period 3: 9:49-10:33
    Period 4: 10:38-11:21
    Period 5: 11:26-12:10
    Period 6: 12:15-12:58

  • When do student's schedules go live?

    There are two release dates:
    • Enrollment schedules - the complete list of the classes they are taking will be sent in July.
    • Student schedules with teachers and class periods will be given to them during Freshman Orientation.
  • What are the uniform requirements?

    The school uniform is the mark of the ASHS student and is a sign of the collective tradition that is shared by ASHS students. Wearing the uniform correctly conveys respect and love for yourself, your classmates, and the institution. Students are expected to wear their proper school uniform at all times. Uniform items must be in good repair. A student not wearing a proper uniform must report to the Assistant Principal,  Student Affairs. 
    • Extreme or unkempt hairstyles are not permitted. 
    • Only natural hair colors are permitted. 
    • Hats or any other type of head covering may not be worn in the building unless a religious exemption is granted. 
    • For boys: a single stud earring in each ear is permitted. 
    • Single stud nose piercings are permitted. The stud must be smaller than 2.5mm. 
    • No other visible piercings are permitted. 

    Uniform Code for Girls

    • A girl’s fingertips must not exceed the length of her skort when standing. If the skort does not meet this expectation, a new skort must be purchased. 
    • Only skorts with the school crest embroidered are permitted. 
    • Boxers, spandex, and other shorts worn under the skort may not extend below the skort. 

    Fall/Spring Uniform for Girls: 
    1. Skort/Shorts/Pants: Flynn O’Hara khaki skort, shorts, or pants (black, brown, or grey belts must be worn with shorts or pants). 
    2. Shirt: White knit “Archbishop Spalding” golf shirt that may be purchased through the bookstore. Only a plain white T-shirt may be worn underneath the golf shirt. Long-sleeve shirts or turtlenecks are not permitted with the fall/spring uniform. 
    3. Socks: Plain white or black socks. 
    4. Tights: Black tights or leggings may be worn.
    5. Shoes: Boat shoes of either cloth or leather, Bucs or Oxford style shoes of a neutral color (white, black, brown, navy, or gray) are permitted (this includes Hey Dudes, Sperrys, and similar styles). Shoes must be at or below the ankle. The following are not permitted: sneakers, tennis shoes, boots, slippers, sandals, Crocs, or open-toed or open-heeled shoes. Heels should not exceed one inch. 
    6. Sweater or Vest: The school sweater or vest is optional. No other jackets, sweaters, or sweatshirts are permitted. 
    7. Spalding Lanyard with Student ID & CavCard: To be worn around the neck at all times. 

    Winter Uniform for Girls: 
    1. Skort/Pants: Flynn O’Hara khaki skort/pants (black, brown, or grey belts must be worn with pants).
    2. Dress Shirt: White, button-down Oxford. Only a plain white T-shirt or white turtleneck may be worn underneath the dress Oxford shirt.
    3. Socks: Plain white or black socks. 
    4. Tights: Black tights or leggings with no design must be worn with the skort for the winter uniform.
    5. Shoes: Boat shoes of either cloth or leather, Bucs or Oxford style shoes of a neutral color (white, black, brown, navy, or gray) are permitted (this includes Hey Dudes, Sperrys, and similar styles). Shoes must be at or below the ankle. The following are not permitted: sneakers, tennis shoes, boots, slippers, sandals, Crocs, or open-toed or open-heeled shoes. Heels should not exceed one inch. 
    6. Sweater or Vest: Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen wear the black V-neck pullover sweater or vest with the school monogram. 
    7. Senior Sweater or Fleece: Senior sweaters or fleeces are purchased through the Cav Shop. However, purchasing a senior sweater or fleece is optional. Senior students may choose to wear their black school sweater or black school vest instead of the senior sweater. A senior fleece may be worn over the proper uniform as long as it does not extend beyond the waistline. 
    8. Spalding Lanyard with Student ID & CavCard: To be worn around the neck at all times.

    Uniform Code for Boys

    • Facial hair is not permitted. 
    • A boy’s fingertips must not exceed the length of his shorts when standing. If the shorts do not meet this expectation, new shorts must be purchased. 
    • Shirts must be properly buttoned and tucked in at all times. 
     
    Fall/Spring Uniform for Boys: 
    1. Dress Pants: Flynn O’Hara khaki pants or shorts.

    9. Necktie: Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen must wear a school tie, which may be purchased from the bookstore or through Flynn O’Hara. The collar button is to be buttoned, and the tie is to be worn to cover the collar button.
  • How do we get textbook and material requirements?

    Textbook and material requirements are released in the Principal Summer Letter, which is sent in the first week of July, and summer Reading is sent before this letter, usually in late June. 
  • What is your school store information?

  • When can you drop off students in the morning?

    You can drop them off at Spalding as early as 7:00 am, and they will be in designated areas until they are released to go into the classrooms unless instructed otherwise.
  • When can you pick up students in the afternoon?

    Regular pick-up will be at 2:35 pm. if you need accommodations to pick up your student(s) later, we have an after-school study hall that goes until 5:15 p.m. in the cafeteria.
  • What is the process if our student arrives late or leaves early?

    If your student(s) arrive late to school, they must either have a medically excused note or it would be an unexcused late. Each student is allowed to have 4 unexcused lates, and students are issued detention on every 4th unexcused late. If you are picking up your student early, contact our attendance coordinator ( attendance@spaldinghs.org ) when the dismissal is. 

    When a student arrives late, they must provide a medical note or court court-related note to be excused; all other reasons are considered late.
  • What is the process if our student is absent from school?

    Parents must email attendance@spaldinghs.org with the student's name and departure time, or they can also report an absence for the entire day or arrival late.

  • What is the process for school lockers and combinations?

    They will receive their locker and locker combination at Freshman Orientation, which will be their locker and combination for all 4 years.
  • When will the freshmen get their school ID and when will picture day be?

    Freshmen will receive an ID at Freshman Orientation. This ID will not have their picture on it. Once they have school picture day in September (the date is to be released), they will be issued a new ID with their picture on it. 
  • How does the lunch process work with Lunchtab?

    Please be advised that SAGE (the cafeteria) does not accept cash or credit cards for food purchases. We are using a system called Lunchtab. We will send you more instructions on how to set up your account in the summer.

  • What school forms do we need to fill out?

    School forms!

    Sports: Any student interested in competing on an interscholastic athletic team for Spalding must have their medical record and physical form updated on Magnus. The physical form can be downloaded from the website's Athletic Training portion and then uploaded to Magnus by the student or guardian.

  • How do I add the school calendar to my phone?

    If you would like to attach the school calendar on the website and the athletics calendar, please see below for how to do so: If you’re viewing the calendar on our website from your phone, you can click the green RSS feed button to add the calendar to your phone calendar. This will add all events - including sporting events. 
  • When are tryouts for fall sports?

    Tryout information will be available on the Spalding Athletics homepage. This will be an active page, so please check in frequently. Additional information on each team’s page will be available, including coaching contact information.
  • Does Spalding have a Parents' Association?

    Yes, we have a Parents' Association and welcome all new members. If you have any questions or would like more information, please get in touch with ashspa@spaldinghs.org
  • How may I be asked to support the school throughout the year?

    Parents are invited to partner with the school’s mission through various philanthropic opportunities, primarily The Spalding Fund. As the school's annual giving campaign and main priority, The Spalding Fund is the "lifeblood" of the institution, bridging the gap between tuition and the actual cost of education to support faculty retention, academic programs, and tuition assistance. A major highlight of the year is the annual Day of Giving, a community-wide event where parents, alumni, and friends are encouraged to make online donations to boost participation and directly impact current students. Additionally, parents are welcome to support signature fundraising events, such as the Spalding Gala, throughout the year.   • Does Spalding have a booster club?

    Archbishop Spalding High School has a strong & impressive history of athletics; as always, we strive to improve upon our excellence. The Cavalier Club (CVC) plays a crucial role in contributing financial support to sustain & enhance our athletic facilities and providing an impressive support system for our school community. The CVC also issues unique tangible benefits for our members. Just as our athletes experience camaraderie on their teams, there are opportunities for fun and friendship throughout the year while volunteering with us.

  • What are the service hour requirements for freshmen?

    There is no service hour requirement for freshmen. Service hour requirements will start in the sophomore year. However, service hours performed after June 15th in the summer before one’s freshman year (and not before) can be applied to the ASHS Graduation Service Requirement. In this case, June 15, 2026.
  • What is the traffic like in the parking lot?

    As the school year starts, parents/students are getting used to the traffic flow through the parking lot. We recommend getting to Spalding at least 20-25 minutes early in the first few weeks of school. After that initial period and things start, to even out 15 minutes is recommended.
  • If my student is struggling, in a class, mentally, etc, where should they go?

    Spalding has great resources to help students when they are struggling. We have 4 counselors, each assigned to a different grade, and a social worker (Susan Buswell). Each counselor has extensive experience and knowledge to help each student. Mrs. Bowers bowersm@spaldinghs.org will be the freshmen counselor.
